Every April to June, the Black-chinned Hummingbirds come to certain parts of the Bay Area. I'm only aware of the gardens at the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose and at the Mclellan Ranch Preserve in Cupertino where they seem to love the nectar from the orange Sticky Monkey flowers.

And why do I like them so much? Well my favorite color is purple so that is what attracts me to them.

And they are very challenging to photograph as they don't sit still for very long and they seem a bit shy.

Bird eye focus didn't seem to work much well either maybe because of the black head against the black eye? 🤷🏻‍♂️

What has been your experience trying to photograph Black-chinned hummingbirds?

Here are some Male Black-chinned Hummers feeding on sticky orange monkey-flower 🖤💜🩶
